The CyanChat (CC) room is where you can meet some of Cyan's employees, as well as other people who have similar interests in playing computer games, 3D computer artwork, and game programming. We have also discussed the Myst novels and the people, culture, and language of D'ni, but the discussion is wide open.
First, please read the Rules page. Then click on Standard Chat at the top of the page. If that doesn't work on your computer, try one of the chat clients that are in Other Chat Clients
Also, there is a standalone Windows application that you can use called Magenta (written by Yohshee). It runs without a browser and has lots of nice features. Download the Magenta Installer. After you have downloaded it, run it and it will install in the proper place. For more information on Magenta go to Yohshee's web site.

News (updated April 17, 2007)
Ok, this time for sure. Cho will be moving to a new ip address tomorrow, April 18th, 2007. The DNS entry will be updated, however, it will take some time to propagate to the internet, so Cho may appear to be unavailable while that happens.

(updated March 29, 2007)
Cho had a loose cable for a few days but he's securely plugged back in.

(updated February 6, 2006)
Updated CyanChat server (2.12d) to get the transcript recorder working (and removed login/logouts from transcripts).
Moved the Aquila Memorial Day transcript to a more permanent place (see Transcripts).

(added December 13, 2005)
Added CherryPy (a pythonic web framework) to cho which will do the majority of the web dynamic processing. The first thing (re-implemented) was 'chomap' on the Cho image. Poor Spyder couldn't find his way back to his web without chomap working. :-)

(added November 18, 2005)
The CyanChat stess test went very well. The last I checked the high water mark was 35 logins and 41 connections. The new box that cho is living in is faster than the old box (ok, there are a lot of things faster than that old SGI box!).
Thanks to everyone that stopped by to help with the test!
There is still more to work on (such as the chat transcipt recorder and web site odds and ends).

(added November 15, 2005)
CHO is still going through some recovery pains. Hopefully, things will be more stable.
This last update was an OS update. Before this update, there was a limitation on the number of internet connections, which was limiting the ChatServer to just ten users. Hopefully, that will be fixed. But we should probably schedule a stress test over the next weekend.

(added November 10, 2005)
Cyan chat is back online. Actually, it has been back for a few days now.
Most all of cho.cyan.com was recovered off of a backup tape from a year ago (which goes to show how much that cho has been updated during the Myst V developement, like not).
There are a few things left... namely the servlets, which I believe was just used for the map on the front page.
After that, I'm not sure. Now that Cho is on a more "standard" box, it willl be easier to add new features...
